Testimonials
Here is what Photo Opportunity students have been saying about Chris Bell and his courses:
"Thank you very much for an excellent weekend course.

I have to admit that not being able to take my usual pictures of 'things' was challenging in the extreme, and I found it quite difficult to 'see' pictures on both excursions, however it has given me a new enthusiasm to think harder about what I'm looking at. On closer inspection of my contact sheet I'm amazed that I was able to make some interesting images from what initially appeared to me to be a very difficult (slightly dull 'thing'-free) landscape.

The developing process in particular was something that I've always wanted to do and was a lot of fun. After our conversation about companies who mass-develop photographs I compared the print that we made with some of the black and white images that I've had developed in the past and I'm very surprised at the difference! I'm going to re-think how I have that done in the future - thanks for the advice.

I definitely feel that I learned a lot from the weekend and will be in touch again in the future.

p.s. do you have any advice on how I can raise the subject with my wife of making a home dark room ?!"
  D B Buckinghamshire
"I have finally found the time to write and thank-you for the great five days that I spent with you back in August (how time flies!). I really benefitted greatly from the time we spent together in the darkroom, out on the streets, the introduction to medium and large format cameras and studio lighting. Above all, thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I was so inspired by this experience that I applied to the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. I began a foundation degree course in professional photography there at the end of September."

"Just writing to say many thanks for a superb two day course last weekend. Firstly, being able to use the camera properly will no doubt prove useful!! Secondly, I've now got a much better understanding of some of the basic technical aspects of the camera and film... and it was great to develop and print our own photographs. Finally, and probably the best part for me, was the help and advice on composition and "quality" of the picture... being told your photograph is "boring" was actually the best help I could have been given; it has made me think a lot more about what does and doesn't make an interesting image.

All in all, a brilliant two days."

"Just wanted say thank you for weekend photography course. It was extremely informative and enjoyable and I feel better equipped than ever to take good photos."   HM London
"Many, many thanks-I had a great time last week and learned an awful lot. One disadvantage however, I've started to look at the composition of TV shots, rather than just watch the programme."   EB London SW3
"...thank-you for the course last week. It was very informative and had a good balance of practical and theory. I really thought it worked well particularly your short talk and then the very simple demo using the screwdriver and scissors.

It was a great course that represents good value for money. Thanks".

"Thank you very much for your excellent teaching. I can't believe how much I learned! Also, I had lots of fun and enjoyed every moment of it. Many thanks".   CW, London W8
"The two days I spent with you and the other students, were the two most rewarding days I've had in a long time. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and, most importantly, walked away with a greater appreciation, love of, and respect for photography. I know what it means to fill a frame and am much more open to trying something different. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and love of this art"   MA,

"I thoroughly enjoyed your excellent course. Fun and informative, it is to be recommended for the total beginner as well as those who have some skill and wish to improve".   SB, London SW7
"The course last weekend was really good, I learnt so much. [My partner] loves the pictures especially when he can see how developing them differently really has an impact. As soon as we have decorated the house, I'm going to get them framed".   SN, Harrow Middx.
"Just a quick note of thanks for a rewarding and beneficial couple of days last week I enjoyed it immensely"   MB, North Yorkshire
"Thank you for your excellent course this weekend, I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it useful and informative."   D J-P, London SW1
"Excellent course, informal and informative. Need to go and put it all into practice now!"   KL, Edinburgh
"Incredibly fun yet a great learning experience. The best part of the course was seeing your prints developed and taking them home"   SCP, London
"Great course. I had never picked up an SLR before and came away knowing the basics of photography and [took] some great shots. Excellent."   SD, London
"Good teaching requires an enthusiasm for the subject, the ability to communicate concepts in a concise and clear manner and the ability to criticise constructively for the benefit of the student. Chris Bell possesses these qualities in abundance and [I] would therefore recommend all to attend this course."   AMG, London
"I have learnt much more from the 5 day course than I was expecting to and I am far from being a beginner – a beginner would learn even more. I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed and informal atmosphere and the fact that Chris is very experienced without being blasé. He still gets really excited about composition and other photographic matters.

In my view, what makes the course unique is the fact that a well-equipped, fully working studio is available at all time. Whether you are interested in the darkroom (wet or digital), 35mm, medium or large format cameras, lighting etc., you can have a crack at it with expert tuition. There is even an endless supply of props!

I do not think you can attend the course and end up not taking better pictures."
